Cinema staff volunteers are needed to smooth the rush of school groups coming in and out of the theatre all at once. It’s a quick but very important job! This is a good shift for those looking for an opportunity to slip into the theatre and watch the film once everyone else has found their seat. page up

YOUTH JURY COORDINATOR

The Youth Jury consists of 7 kids between the ages of 9 and 13. They earned their place on the Jury after winning our Youth Jury Film Review Contest where they were recognized for their writing skills with regard to how they feel and think about movies. Now that they’ve got the job, they have to watch all of our feature and short films during the Festival’s 10-day run.

The Youth Jury Coordinator will facilitate their experience by acting as their escort and leading discussions after the films. How important is the Youth Jury? If you consider that prospective jurors in Montreal and Toronto are prepared to wait up to 2 years to be involved in this excellent, rewarding and rich experience, then you get a sense of the Jury’s value for the Festival and Jury participants! If you want to work alongside members of the Winnipeg Jury, you will be required to:

  • confirm the screening schedule for the Jury
  • facilitate a pre-festival orientation session with a local arts reviewer and the Youth Jury
  • escort the Youth Jury to all films and events
  • facilitate the jury deliberation after the last day to determine which film is awarded the Freeze Frame Youth Jury Prize for the Best Feature Film and the NFB Youth Jury Prize for the Best Animated Short
  • be a resource and friend for the Youth Jury during the Festival run page up

VOICE-OVER COORDINATOR

The Voice-Over Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the schedule of actors hired to read the subtitles for screenings (voice-over). This position requires someone who can commit some time two months ahead of the Festival in order to get cassettes and transcripts (when available) to those hired to read. They are also responsible for preparing the reading schedule and ensuring that microphones are set up and working at the required time. The name of the actor must also be given well ahead of time to the person announcing the film so they can be publicly recognized. page up

VOICE-OVER READERS

This is a popular service offered by international children’s film festivals around the globe. Voice-over actors help make internationally acclaimed and subtitled films accessible for children who can’t read or read fast enough (our guideline is kids under the age of 9). Two actors bring a film to life in English by reading subtitles for select characters. You will:

  • watch the film at home while following along with the script
  • meet with your voice-over partner and the Voice-Over Coordinator for a rehearsal with microphone
  • perform the voice-over in the theatre page up

YOUTH VIDEO CONTEST AWARDS EVENT COORDINATOR

Make the participants in Reel Views and Wee Reel feel like stars for an evening! YOUTH VIDEO CONTEST EDITOR

FESTIVAL PHOTOGRAPHER/VIDEOGRAPHER

The photographer/videographer documents our Festival for our records, web site and next year’s promotional materials. We need photos of special guests, jury members, workshops and our audience. • use Freeze Frame waiver forms
  • 'cover' a variety of Festival events
  • maintain a waiver/photo cross-reference system
