Screenwriting for a youth audience with India Desjardins, screenwriter of Aurélie Laflamme – Les pieds sur terre

India Desjardins is the author of a series of successful books in Quebec for young adults and children. Drawing on the eight installments of her series Aurélie Laflamme, she wrote two screenplays that ultimately became feature films which were very well received by audiences and critics alike. In this workshop India Desjardins will present a number of clips from her most recent feature and will talk about the challenges she met in creating these scenes for the screen. She will also address the topic of adapting books to film.  The workshop will be interative, with participants encouraged to ask questions throughout. It will be moderated by Pascal Boutroy, Artistic Director of Freeze Frame.  Please note: this workshop will be delivered in French.

Aurélie Laflamme – Les pieds sur terre will be presented three times during the Festival: Sunday, March 6 at 2:30 pm; Monday, March 7 at 10:00 am; and Tuesday, March 8 at 10:00 am. All screenings take place at CCFM, 340 Provencher Boulevard.

Making Your First Feature Film: Turning Your Dream Into Reality, with Ekrem Ergün, Director of Hördur (Germany)

Ekrem Ergün is a young German director/producer, originally from Turkey, whose first feature film is the recently released Hördur. The film has been much in demand at film festivals for young people. Ekrem Ergün trained as an actor. Although he did not study directing, his experience in theatre, film and television enabled him to successfully embark on his first feature. Drawing from his own experience, Ekrem will talk about the obstacles encountered in making a feature film, not only in relation to content but also financing and working with a film crew. He will also explain how he came to be the film’s producer. Ekrem Ergün encourages participants at the workshop to ask questions.

Hördur will be presented three times during the Festival: Friday, March 11 at 11:00 am, Saturday, March 12 at 11:00 am and as the closing film of the Festival on Sunday, March 13 at 3:00 pm. All screenings are at CCFM, 340 Provencher Boulevard.

Master Class with Amanda Strong: Taking Your Short Film to the Next Level

With her two latest animated short films Indigo and Mia’ (which is a collaboration with Bracken Hanuse Corlett) director Amanda Strong has taken major film festivals by storm, including Cannes, TIFF, VIFF and Austin, with a success that is to be envied. In this Master Class Amanda will share her experience and the choices that have allowed her to achieve the ‘next level’ in her work, without compromising the inspiration she derives from her Indigenous roots.

The films Indigo and Mia’ are included in the Festival’s short film programs presented in French on March 6 at 1:00 pm; March 7 at 10:00 am; and March 8 at 12:30 pm, and in English on March 8 at 11:00 am; March 10 at 11:30 am; and March 11 at 10:00 am. All screenings are at CCFM, 340 Provencher Boulevard.
